Markus Weggenmann (born November 6, 1953 in Singen ) is a German-Swiss artist .

biography

Weggenmann has been working as a freelance artist since 1990. Originally trained as an occupational therapist and later as a psychoanalyst , he pursued these professions before starting his artistic career. Markus Weggenmann lives and works in Zurich .

Weggenmann first received attention with his stripe pictures, which he created from the late 1980s, in which, following the strictly conceptual guidelines of the stripe motif, he lined up colored bars in a wide variety of combinations, formats and variations. From the years from 1999 onwards, one primarily knows the industrially produced car paint pictures. In the collision of the flat, perfect surface and the lively gesture of the motifs, they develop a very unique charisma, which on the one hand keeps the viewer at a distance, but at the same time is able to influence him through form and surface. In the beginning it was often simple surfaces that met in the direct juxtaposition of their colors, but in more recent works there is a development towards multi-layered and perspective. In the same way and at the same time, however, works are also created that here and there even completely tip over into the representational.

Weggenmann was represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. His works are in well-known public and private collections, e. B. in the Kunsthaus Zürich or in the Kunstmuseum Bonn .
