Markus Wissen (* 1965 ) is a German political scientist . He is a professor of social sciences with a focus on socio-ecological transformation processes at the Berlin School of Economics and Law .

Life

Knowledge studied political science at the Free University of Berlin until 1994 and received his doctorate there in 1999 with a thesis entitled The Periphery in the Metropolis. Regulating socio-spatial polarization in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1999. Between 2000 and 2007, Markus Wissen worked on various scientific research projects, including a. at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics , the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main , the Free University Berlin and the Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning (IRS) Erkner.

In 2011 he was at the University of Vienna for political science with the work Social natural conditions in the internationalization of the state: conflicts over the space of public policies and the control of natural resources habilitation . In the winter semester of 2012, Wissen was appointed to a professorship at the University of Economics and Law in Berlin.

His work focuses on the social relationships to nature , environmental policy , the transformation of (auto) mobility and the spatial dimensions of the transformation of statehood. Knowledge is a member of the PROKLA editorial team.

In 2017 he published the book Imperiale Lebensweise together with Ulrich Brand . On the exploitation of man and nature in global capitalism , which was received in large numbers, had several editions and made it to number 17 on the SPIEGEL bestseller list in the "Non-Fiction" category.
