PROKLA (full title: PROKLA - Journal for Critical Social Science) is a German Marxist- oriented specialist journal in the fields of sociology , social history and political science that has been published since 1971 . Her academic subject areas are political economy , ecology , critical theory , international relations and social movements . With its multi-stage review process, PROKLA sees itself as a scientific peer review journal.

The editor of the journal is the Vereinigung zur Critique of Political Economy e. V. with its registered office in Berlin . history
From 1969 employees at the Otto Suhr Institute at the Free University of Berlin published the journal Sozialistische Politik . In March 1971, the minority of SED sympathizers in the editorial team secured the naming rights to the newspaper behind the backs of the other members of the editorial team. As a result, part of the editorial team, a group around Elmar Altvater with around 25 editors and authors, founded the magazine Problems of the Class Struggle - magazine for political economy and socialist politics - in 1971 as a counter-project . Jürgen Hoffmann was the managing editor from 1976 to 1980 .
From 1976 to 1992 PROKLA was published by Rotbuch Verlag . Since 1976, the original title "Problems of the Class Struggle" was only used in the form of the acronym PROKLA on the cover, but was written out on the inside of the cover until 1992. Since the first edition in 1992, the subtitle "Journal for Political Economy and Socialist Politics" has been replaced by "Journal for Critical Social Science". From 1993 to the end of 2019 the Prokla was published by the Westfälisches Dampfboot publishing house . It has been published by Bertz + Fischer Verlag since 2020 .
