The Socialist Politics (SoPo) was a socialist journal for political science and social sciences , which appeared between April 1969 and December 1978 in West Berlin.
history
The SoPo emerged from the previous publications Der Politologe and Berliner Zeitschrift für Politologie . Published on behalf of the Political Science Student Council at the Otto Suhr Institute , the journal became an important discussion body for the independent socialist left thanks to its cross-stream editorial work. Numerous authors of the “ New Left ” at the time, such as Johannes Agnoli , Elmar Altvater , Christel Neusüß , Bernd Rabehl , Freerk Huisken , Bassam Tibi and Ossip K. Flechtheim, wrote for the SoPo. Many magazines were legendarily inedible for non-intellectuals. So at times the footnotes predominated; the passages of text filled the lesser part of a single page.
In March 1971 a Marxist editorial minority around Frank and Hella Stern managed a “putsch” by secretly securing the naming rights to the newspaper. The majority of the undogmatic leftists - the so-called Altvater group around Elmar Altvater with around 25 editors and authors - did not support the new course of the editorial collective that now owns the magazine, which is closely related to the DKP and SEW , and founded the magazine Problems, which still exists today, as a counter-project of the class struggle - magazine for political economy and socialist politics ( PROKLA ). Another group around Joachim Bischoff also left the magazine and took over the VSA publishing house .
In the course of the new course (from issue 11), the SoPo lost its role as a medium for meeting different left and Marxist-Leninist positions. However, the magazine created a new readership for itself in the environment of DKP, SEW and the K groups . In December 1978 the SoPo was discontinued after a total of 46 issues.
The mini manual of the urban guerrilla of the Brazilian revolutionary Carlos Marighella was published in German for the first time in SoPo .
