The Bertz + Fischer Verlag , based in Berlin-Kreuzberg was founded in 1996 by Dieter Bertz and Katrin Fischer and on books on the subjects of politics, culture, film and audio books specialize.

The media / culture series published by Marcus Stiglegger is cultural-scientific and interdisciplinary and is dedicated to film and television as well as other media such as games and the Internet. There is room for pointed, controversial essays, especially on popular culture, in the small-format series Culture & Criticism . And since 2007, Jochen Brunow and the Carl Mayer Society - supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media - have published the film and screenplay almanac Scenario at Bertz + Fischer Verlag. Numerous publications are produced in cooperation with institutions from the film sector such as the Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum for Film and Television or the DEFA Foundation . For example, the publications of the Berlinale retrospective have been published by Bertz + Fischer Verlag since 2003 . The Weimar Cinema - Newly Seen catalog, edited by Karin Herbst-Meßlinger, Rainer Rother and Annika Schaefer , was awarded the 2018 Willy Haas Prize for an important international publication on German-language film.

The PROKLA magazine has been published by the publisher since March 2020 .
