Erika Richter (born January 6, 1938 in Aachen ; † August 24, 2020 ) was a German dramaturge .

life and work

Erika Richter grew up in Chemnitz . 1956 she studied until 1960 dramaturgy at the Academy of Film Art in Babelsberg . After completing her studies, she worked for the magazine Deutsche Filmkunst for a year . This was followed by a year and a half of additional studies at the WGIK in Moscow , which she undertook together with her husband, the film scholar and painter Rolf Richter (1932–1992).

She then worked as an editor for the magazine Filmwissenschaftliche Mitteilungen . From 1967 to 1969 she worked as a German teacher at the GDR cultural center in Cairo . Then she worked on the film studies contributions . From 1971 to 1975 she wrote at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED on her dissertation on the topic of everyday life and history in DEFA contemporary films from the 1970s ; In 1975 she received her doctorate.

From 1975 to 1991 she worked as a dramaturge at the DEFA studio for feature films. There she was in charge of projects by Evelyn Schmidt ( Seitensprung , 1979; Das Fahrrad , 1980; Auf dem Sprung , 1984), Lothar Warneke ( Die Beunruhigung , 1981; Eine strange Liebe , 1984; Blonder Tango , 1985), Rainer Simon ( Jadup und Boel , 1981), Roland Gräf ( Fariaho , 1982), Heiner Carow ( Paule Panke , aborted; So many dreams , 1986; Coming Out , 1989; Misconduct , 1991), Siegfried Kühn ( Today only the others die , 1990; The Liar , 1991) and Herwig Kipping ( The Land Behind the Rainbow , 1991).

From 1992 to 1999 she worked as editor of the magazine Film und Fernsehen . Richter also worked for the DEFA foundation and was co-editor of the DEFA yearbook from 2003 to 2005.

Richter lived in Berlin . Her legacy is in the Potsdam Film Museum . In 2003 Richter was awarded the Berlinale Camera for her life's work .
