Brigitte Desalm

Brigitte Desalm (* 1942 in Remscheid ; † December 12, 2002 in Cologne ) was a German journalist and film critic .

life and work

Brigitte Desalm grew up in her place of birth, Remscheid. After graduating from high school, she studied German and pedagogy and trained as an actress . After her first engagement at the Schauspielhaus Bochum , she switched to journalism in 1963. Desalm did her traineeship at the Deutsche Zeitung at DuMont-Verlag . She then worked as a freelance literary critic for the Süddeutscher Rundfunk , Deutsche Welle and the magazine Der Monats .

In December 1972 she started to work for the culture department of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger . In 1980 she took over the management of the film department there. In addition, Desalm publishes film essays on WDR television , wrote regularly for the magazine steadycam , and wrote articles for books on film. Desalm worked for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger for 30 years until she died from cancer .

The focus of her work was the American cinema of the 1970s and 1980s. Tom Tykwer described her as " Pauline Kael of German film criticism", a judgment that is also followed by the obituary in the world . For her contribution "Fluchtpunkt für die Volksseele" about the " Büdchen " in Cologne, Desalm received the Theodor Wolff Prize in 1999 in the local category.
