Markwart III. von Eppenstein († before April 13, 1000 ) was from 970 Margrave of the Carinthian Mark on the Mur . He was also Count of Eppenstein , Count in the Viehbachgau and in the Mürz Valley.

He was the son of Count Markwart II von Viehbach.

Around the year 970 there was a double wedding: Markwart married Hadamud / Hadamudis / Hadamuod, daughter of Adalberos I von Ebersberg ; Markwart's sister Richarda / Richgard married Udalrich / Ulrich , Hadamud's brother. As a result, Markwart was closely connected to the Ebersberger clan, which had already provided a Carinthian border count with Ratold († 919) under Emperor Arnulf of Carinthia .
