Marlies Lüth

Marlies Lüth (* 1935 in Wuppertal ; † May 16, 2020 ) was a German SPD politician. She was a member of the district council in the Mettmann district and deputy mayor of Langenfeld (Rhineland) .

Life

During the Second World War, Lüth fled to her grandparents in Mainfranken , where she attended elementary school. She returned to Wuppertal after the war and became an industrial clerk. In 1960 she moved to Langenfeld with her husband.

Her political career began in 1970 with her successful commitment to the establishment of the first preschool classes in kindergartens. In 1971 she joined the SPD and in 1975 a member of the city council of Langenfeld. In 1972 she was directly elected to the district assembly in Mettmann , to which she belonged for 28 years from 1976 to 2004 for six legislative terms. From 1987 to 1990 she was parliamentary group leader of the SPD. From October 1989 to 1996 she was the deputy mayor of Langenfeld. She was chairman of the youth welfare committee for 18 years. Her main work of local politics were the areas of social affairs and education, she fought in particular for the establishment of comprehensive school .

Lüth was chairwoman of the Langenfeld working group of social democratic women and deputy chairwoman of the AWO . She was involved in numerous initiatives such as the support group of the curative educational home and the support associations of the city museum and Rheinische Kliniken Langenfeld .

She died in 2020 at the age of 85.

Honors

  • On December 19, 1996, Lüth was awarded the ring of honor of the city of Langenfeld for her political commitment.
  • On March 6, 2000, she received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
