Marlis Tempel (March 30, 1929 - September 14, 2015 ) was a German animal rights activist and politician .

Life

Animal shelter of the Tierschutzverein Wuppertal eV at the Waldkampfbahn in Vohwinkel

Marlis Tempel, a former city councilor of the city of Wuppertal , was appointed to the board of the Tierschutzverein Wuppertal in 1970 , where she initially acted as treasurer from September 1978 to October 1992 and then as chairwoman of the executive board from 1992 to 2012.

Raising funds for the association, which was initially suffering from financial need, in order to maintain a small, rather makeshift animal shelter was initially one of her main tasks. Together with an architect, she later devoted herself to the planning of a new animal shelter, which was made possible thanks to an inheritance in 1988 on the purchased property at the Vohwinkeler Waldkampfbahn. Even at an advanced age, she was present at information events, parties, in the office and, most recently, in the telephone service for the animal shelter, which was provided six days a week.

Marlis Tempel died on September 14, 2015 after a serious illness. She left two daughters and three grandchildren.

Awards

For her services as a politician, in the social field and in animal welfare, she received the Federal Cross of Merit and the Ring of Honor of the City of Wuppertal (1994). On the occasion of the 150th birthday of the animal welfare association in 2012, she was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor of the German Animal Welfare Association and the honorary award of the state association .
