Career

In 1993 he moved to the club and played there over 400 first division appearances. His greatest success during this time was winning the runner-up championship in 1997. In recent years, the captain of his club has also played a more offensive role and in 2003 he was the team's top scorer with 14 goals. He is also considered a penalty specialist. In August 2006 he moved to the second half of the season for the second division CD Universidad Católica , in January 2007 as a playmaker for the top club Barcelona SC Guayaquil . After he completed 30 missions in the first season, but only nine missions in the second, his contract ended at the end of December 2008. He has been without a club since then.

Marlon Ayoví also has a long career in his country's selections. He played in all youth selections, the U17, the U20 and the U23, but then it took some time before he was also used in the Ecuadorian national team . He made his debut in 1998 and has since played over 70 national games, including at all major tournaments such as the Copa America in 1999, 2001 and 2004 and at Ecuador's first World Cup participation in 2002 , where he was in all three games.

Even during the successful qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the veteran was an important pillar of the team and played almost every game. At 34, he was by far the oldest player in Ecuador's World Cup squad ; he was only used in the group game against Germany.
