Club Deportivo de la Universidad Católica del Ecuador is established in 1963 Ecuadorian soccer club from the capital Quito , Pichincha Province , who is currently in the Serie A play.
history
The Universidad Católica del Ecuador association was founded in 1963 as an association of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador . The club rose to Serie A for the first time in 1965 . The club celebrated its greatest successes in the 1970s, when it was runner-up twice and qualified for the Copa Libertadores ( 1974 and 1980 ), both of which ended after the group stage. In the 1990s, however, the club even rose to the second category, in which he played from 1994 to 1998. Then the club established itself in Serie B , from which he made promotion to the first division in 2007, 2009 and 2012. After 2012, the relegation could be prevented. In 2014 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 , the Universidad Católica qualified for the Copa Sudamericana. In the 2014 edition, the club failed after a first round win against the Venezuelan club Deportivo Anzoátegui in the second round against the Chilean representative CD Huachipato . A year later, the first round against the Venezuelan club Deportivo La Guaira was over . In 2015, the club lost in the first round to the Colombian club Independiente Medellín and in 2016 in the second round to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro after they defeated Oriente Petrolero from Bolivia in the first round .
After a year without participating in international competitions, Universidad Católica was able to qualify again for the Copa Sudamericana 2019 .

Universidad Católica del Ecuador plays its home games at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa . The stadium was inaugurated in 1951 and has a capacity of 35,742 seats.
