The Marmara Gölü (also Gygischer See ) is a lake in the western Turkish province of Manisa .
The Marmara Gölü is located in the historical Lydian landscape . The 44.5 sq km lake is located at an altitude of 79 meters on the northern edge of an alluvial plain that of the river Gediz is crossed. The district town of Gölmarmara is about 10 km north of the lake. The city of Salihli and the ruins of the Lydian capital Sardis are 15 km south-southeast of the Marmara Gölü. A supply channel leads from the southern Gediz to the lake as well as a drainage channel from the lake to a downstream part of the Gediz. The lake is used to irrigate the arable land to the south, below the dam. The Marmara Gölü is considered an important bird habitat.
