Mars Island ( English ; Russian Остров Марс Ostrow Mars , German ' Mars Island ' ) is an island off the Knox coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It is located in the area of the Bunger Oasis .
Scientists on a Soviet Antarctic expedition mapped and named it in 1956. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated the Russian name into a transcribed partial translation into English.
