Marsamxett Harbor
The Marsamxett Harbor is a harbor on Malta . It is the north of two natural harbors of Valletta . In the north it is bounded by the cities of Gżira and Sliema , in the west by the inland cities of Ta 'Xbiex , Msida and Pietà . The Marsamxett Harbor is divided into the Sliema Creek, from where the tourist boats and a ferry to Valletta leave, as well as the Lazzaretto and Msida Creek. There is a large, well-protected marina with space for around 700 yachts. There are some messages in Ta 'Xbiex. Ferries to Gozo leave from Pietà .
In Marsamxett Harbor is Manoel Island , which can be reached via a small bridge from Gżira and separates Sliema Creek from Lazzaretto Creek. On the small island there are yacht yards and the 18th century Fort Manoel . From 1643 the island housed a hospital and served as a quarantine for plague and cholera sufferers. Hence the name "Lazzaretto Creek".
