Marten Kastermans

Marten Willem Jozef Kastermans (born June 30, 1925 in Groningen ; † August 15, 2014 ) was a Dutch football official .

Life

After graduating from school, Kastermans worked in an agricultural office that dealt with the processing of grain. After the Second World War , during which he escaped from work for the German occupiers, he became involved in the workers' sports movement and the Nederlandse Culturele Sportbond .

In 1958, Kastermans was asked to lead Velocitas back into professional football in 1897 . In the 1960s he was also involved in the board of directors of local competitor GVAV , which later became FC Groningen . At the same time he made a career at the agricultural company AAgrunol , of which he became director. He was also involved in local politics and various sports associations.

As a representative of Velocitas, Kastermans was first president of the northern district at the KNVB, followed by a position on the board of the national association, where he took over responsibility for amateur football. In 1990 he took over the chairmanship of the Dutch sports association Nederlandse Sport Federatie . In cooperation with Mickey Huibregtsen , the merger with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to form the NOC * NSF was completed under his leadership in 1993 .

After suffering a heart attack in 1998 , he gradually gave up his offices and received various awards.
