Marthe Laurens

Marthe Laurens ( 1886 - 1957 ) was a French artist who in the fields of painting and ceramics was active.

life and work

Marthe Laurens is best known for her cubist still lifes , influenced by her admiration for Georges Braque . From 1920 she took part in exhibitions of the Société des Artistes Indépendants . Ceramics played an increasing role in her late work. Marthe Laurens only exhibited her ceramics publicly once, namely in 1951 at the Céramiques de maîtres exhibition in the Palais de Rumine in Lausanne.

Marthe Laurens was married to the artist Henri Laurens . She is buried on the Cimetière Montparnasse .
