history

Martigan Live

Martigan was founded in March 1994 by keyboardist Oliver Strahl. He used his contacts to various musicians with whom he had already made music and combined them in a band . The music should please the band members and not serve any commercial purpose. After 2 weeks of trial work with Kai Marckwordt, Jürgen Edlinger, Axel Schütze and Alex Bisch, the music style " Progressive Rock " was found and the first piece was named Painter . At the end of 1994, the master was made into the first demo CD in the rehearsal room on two weekends with two DAT recorders. It had the name of the rehearsal location: Stolzenbach . This CD made contact with producer Rudolf Nepix at the end of 1995, with whom Martigan began recording a new CD in May 1996. The CD was released at the end of 1996 under the name Ciel Ouvert on the Floh Dur label . At the beginning of 1997 the Maxi-CD Simplicius was recorded. Various individual concerts in clubs and concert halls followed. A highlight was u. a. the engagement as opening act for the band SAGA .

The founding member Jürgen Edlinger (guitar) left the band in mid-1998 for private reasons. Björn Bisch, brother of the drummer Alex Bisch, came as a replacement, who quickly got into the music and gave the songs new impulses with his guitar playing. The years 1999 and 2000 were dominated by new compositions that were recorded in the studio for the new album Man of the Moment , which was released in the summer of 2002. Founding member Axel Schütze left the band because he became a father. Peter Kindler played bass in his place, but left the band in 2008 for personal reasons. At the beginning of 2009 the new album Vision was released . Martigan is currently reinforced on bass by Mario Koch. At the end of 2015 the album Distant Monsters was released. After 25 years, Martigan announced the breakup of the band on April 3, 2019.
