The Martin-Luther-King-Schule (short: MLKS ) is a vocational school with partly supra-regional responsibility in Kassel . It is named after Martin Luther King . As of November 1, 2017, around 1900 pupils are attending the school and around 70 teachers are teaching.
history
In 1963, today's Martin Luther King School was founded by the city of Kassel as what was then a commercial vocational school. At the turn of the year 1970/71, the new building on Schillerstrasse, which is still in use today, was ready to move into. This overcame the lack of space that was common at the time. It was named in 1971 after the civil rights activist Martin Luther King. The technical college for business administration and the higher commercial school were affiliated to the MLKS in 1979. At the beginning of the 2008/09 school year, the technical school for office communication was set up at the MLKS. In the 2017/2018 school year, the higher commercial school was transferred to a vocational school for transition to training (BÜA) through the participation of the Martin Luther King School in association with the other vocational schools in the city and district of Kassel . The MLKS is the responsible vocational school for 15 apprenticeships in northern Hesse . Teaching takes place in two buildings. In the main building, Schillerstraße 4 and 6, there are mainly classrooms and the school administration with secretariat. In the adjoining building, which is located at Schillerstraße 5, there are specialist rooms and IT rooms. A sports hall is also attached to the main complex.
Professional training
The school offers the opportunity to train to become a state-certified business economist. Currently (2014) the four subjects Controlling, Logistics, Marketing and Human Resources are offered. The training takes place full-time or part-time for working people. During the further training there is also the possibility of acquiring the advanced technical college entrance qualification or of taking part in the training of the trainers.
Qualification level: Since January 31, 2012, further training to become a state-certified business economist has been assigned to level 6 according to the German and European Qualifications Framework (DQR / EQR).
