The Luzern Verkehrshaus train station is the second largest train station in Lucerne after the Lucerne train station . It is located on the Lucerne – Immensee railway line and is served by Voralpen-Express trains and the S3 line of the Lucerne S-Bahn . The Swiss Museum of Transport, which gives it its name, is on the other side of Haldenstrasse across from the train station.
history
The station was opened with the timetable change in 2007. The opening of the station was a long-cherished wish of the Verkehrshaus. To celebrate the opening, and the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Gotthard railway one was ICN in the name of Louis Favre - the builder of the Gotthard tunnel of godfather - Samuel Schmid baptized.
Before that, there was the Würzenbach service station at this point , which had a siding in addition to the two crossing tracks. The SBB Ae 8/14 11852 stood on this for years .
Location and architecture
The train station is located in the Würzenbach district on Lake Lucerne, parallel to the Swiss Museum of Transport that gives it its name. Other stations (from an operational point of view) on the Lucerne – Immensee railway line are Meggen and Küssnacht am Rigi . The two tracks are accessed with two side platforms with exits at street level. In addition to the Verkehrshaus, the station also provides access to the Würzenbach and Bellerive quarters. The pier of the same name operated by the Vierwaldstättersee shipping company is in the immediate vicinity .

Trivia
- After the fire at Lucerne's main train station in 1971, a new construction variant envisaged the city's new major station on the area of today's Verkehrshaus station as a through station variant where the lines from Zurich and Arth-Goldau would converge. The lines from Basel and Bern should also be led to the Verkehrshaus via tunnels, whereby the trains would have stopped at an underground station in the city.
- In the media, the Lucerne Museum of Transport is often referred to as an S-Bahn stop, but from an operational point of view, the station is a train station, as the points for the siding are located in the station area.
