Martin Abendroth

Martin Abendroth (born October 4, 1883 in Berlin , † December 14, 1977 in Neuenhagen near Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( bass baritone ) and vocal teacher.

Life

Abendroth was trained in Berlin. In 1906 he made his debut at the City Theater in Königsberg . He then worked at the Krefeld City Theater, the Wroclaw Opera House, the Wiesbaden State Theater and from 1925 at the Berlin State Opera. He mostly sang smaller roles, but was also cast in large, supporting roles. In 1925 he took part in the world premiere of Alban Berg's Wozzeck .

From 1927 to 1931 he was also a member of the Berlin Kroll Opera , where he a. a. participated in the premiere of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex . For the opening of the house on November 19, 1927, he created the Rocco in the Fidelio . In 1929 he took part in the Sopot Festival .

He worked in Berlin for many years, also as a singing teacher.

He also appeared as a concert and lieder singer. She was married to the soprano Marianne Keiler , who worked in Mannheim, Breslau and Wuppertal.
