Martin Betz (2017)

Martin Betz (born June 17, 1964 in Chicago ) is a German cabaret artist , pianist and author . He lives in Tübingen .

Life

After graduating from Uhland-Gymnasium Tübingen and doing community service, he studied harpsichord with Bradford Tracey , Bob van Asperen and Mitzi Meyerson. He completed his final artistic examination at the HdK Berlin and his master's degree at the FU Berlin .

In addition to the piano, Betz uses various mini keyboards and children's pianos to accompany his chansons. He also designs programs in which spoken Betz texts alternate with early Baroque harpsichord music. In addition to his solo activity, he works in a duo with the dance comedian Gernot Frischling, in the children's instrument band Die Toyboys led by Otto Kuhnle and as a member of the reading stage “Die Tuesdayspropheten”.

Since the death of Christof Stählin (2015), Betz and his colleague Matthias Binner have tried to continue the songwriting school Sago - Mainz Academy for Music and Poetry , initiated by Stählin .

Trivia

Betz is the son of the theologian Otto Betz and cousin of the brain researcher Heinrich Betz .

He plays two harpsichords from the workshop of William Jurgenson , the smaller of which has a unique keyboard: in order to be able to perform the mid-tone tuning universally, it has 19 keys per octave.
