Martin Docherty

Martin Docherty (* 1971 ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Docherty was born in 1971 and grew up in Clydebank . He entered work at the age of 16 but then attended Glasgow College of Food Technology , from which he received a degree in Business Administration. Docherty then earned a bachelor's degree in politics from the University of Essex . He also completed a master's degree in philosophy at the Glasgow School of Art . Then Docherty worked for the West Dunbartonshire Community and Volunteering Services for several years .

Political career

In 1991, Docherty joined the SNP. A year later he was elected to the Clydebank local council for the party. In 2012 he was elected to the Glasgow City Council.

In the 2015 general election, Dochrety ran for the first time in elections at the national level. He applied for the mandate of the constituency of West Dunbartonshire , which Labor politician Gemma Doyle has represented in the British House of Commons since 2010 . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, Docherty clearly won the mandate with a share of 59.0% of the vote and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. Despite losing votes, Docherty maintained his mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
