Gemma Doyle (* 1981 in Alexandria ) is a Scottish politician.

Life

Doyle was born in Alexandria in 1981. She grew up in Dumbarton and attended St Patrick's Primary School there and Our Lady and St Patrick's High School . She then enrolled at Glasgow University and graduated with a Masters in European Civilization . In addition to his studies, Doyle was already politically active and worked as a waitress and chambermaid.

Political career

Doyle joined the Labor Party at the age of 15 . Among other things, she worked for various members of the Scottish Parliament . She is also a member of the Co-operative Party .

John McFall won the West Dunbartonshire constituency mandate when it was introduced in 2005. In the run-up to the 2010 general election, McFall announced that he was no longer available for the election. Instead, the Labor Party installed Doyle in that constituency. On election day, she gained 61.3% of the votes and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , she took the position of Secretary of State for Defense. In the following general election in 2015, Doyle was defeated by the SNP candidate Martin Docherty and left the House of Commons.
