Martin Emden

Martin Emden (born February 2, 1801 in Frankfurt am Main ; † November 2, 1858 ibid) was a German lawyer and politician .

Emden, who was of Jewish faith, was the son of the Frankfurt citizen and banker Feist Jakob Emden († 1831). He studied law and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. In 1825 he was admitted to the bar in the Free City of Frankfurt .

From 1854 he was a board member of the Jewish community in Frankfurt and from 1858 its chairman. He was also a board member of the Goldschmidt Scholarship Foundation. He was also politically active and was a member of the legislative body of the Free City of Frankfurt from 1850 to 1851 (and again as a supplement in 1852) .
