Martin Furian

Martin Furian (born August 27, 1932 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) is a social and media pedagogue and former professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Social Sciences in Esslingen am Neckar . As an author and editor of educational publications, he was best known for his educational books for children, adolescents and young adults.

Life

Furian attended the Social Pedagogical Seminar in Dortmund from 1955 to 1957, before studying political science, modern history and adult education at the Free University of Berlin from 1958 to 1963 .

After working as managing director of Aktion Jugendschutz, Landesarbeitsstelle Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart, from 1963 to 1970 he was appointed to the Fachhochschule für Sozialwesen in Esslingen in 1971. There he was department head, head of the internship office and from 1973 to 1977 first elected rector of this university and deputy chairman of the rectors' conference in Baden-Württemberg. He retired in 1994.

In addition to his university activities, from 1973 to 1990 he worked on a voluntary basis in various state and social committees such as the Board of Trustees of the Baden-Württemberg University of Cooperative Education, the State School Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of the Coordination Office for Addiction Issues at the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the Expert Commission on New Media of State government of Baden-Württemberg and the Broadcasting Council of the South German Broadcasting Corporation. From 1986 to 1990 he was deputy director of the State Office for Communication Baden-Württemberg .

From 1989 to 1998 he was a member of the City Council of Ostfildern.

Honors

In 1995 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his life's work.
