Martin Goldstein (Mafioso)

Martin "Bugsy" Goldstein (* 1905 / 1906 ; † 12. June 1941 in Sing Sing Prison in Ossining , New York ) was an American mobster from New York City . Because of his Jewish origins, he is now part of a group of criminals known as " Kosher Nostra ".

Life

Born under the name Meyer Goldstein Goldstein was involved in the infiltration of the painters' union ( "labor racketeering" ) together with Seymour Magoon in the 1920s and 1930s . When the National Crime Syndicate was formed by Castellammare after the war , Murder, Inc. emerged as the central killing organ, in which mainly mobsters of the Kosher Nostra and La Cosa Nostra worked together.

Goldstein was under the command of Albert Anastasia and Louis "Lepke" Buchalter .

In 1935 Goldstein and another hit man named Harry Strauss were charged with the murder of Joseph Amberg and the murder of Morris Kessler and brought to justice. However, the trial was dropped after six witnesses were no longer able to identify the two accused as perpetrators.

The end

After the arrest of his childhood friend Abe Reles , another contract killer of Murder, Inc., and his cooperation with the district attorney Thomas E. Dewey , Goldstein was arrested in 1940 and put on trial. Based on the statements of Reles and Seymour Magoon, Goldstein and his accomplice Harry Strauss were sentenced to death for the murder of Irving Feinstein . When New York Judge Fitzgerald gave the defendant Goldstein the opportunity to make a closing remarks, he added:

“Before I die, there is one more thing I would like to do. I would like to piss on your leg judge. "

Goldstein was executed on the electric chair in Sing Sing Prison on June 12, 1941, shortly before midnight . The death penalty was carried out on Harry Strauss on the same day.
