Martin Hartmann (philosopher)

Martin Hartmann (* 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German philosopher and professor of philosophy with a focus on practical philosophy at the University of Lucerne .

Life

After studying philosophy, comparative literature and sociology at the University of Konstanz , the London School of Economics and the Free University of Berlin , Martin Hartmann was awarded his dissertation entitled The Creativity of Habit in 2001 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main PhD. His doctoral supervisor was Axel Honneth . From October 2001 Hartmann was a research assistant at the Institute for Philosophy at Frankfurt University. There he completed his habilitation in 2009 with his thesis on a theory of trust . After taking on various substitute professorships, he was appointed full professor at the University of Lucerne with effect from February 1, 2011.

Hartmann's research focuses on political philosophy and social philosophy. He is primarily concerned with theories of trust, American pragmatism, and critical theory .
