Martin Island is a small island off the coast of the East Antarctic Kempland . In the northern part of Edward VIII Bay , it is located directly in front of the south side of the Edward VIII Plateau .
Norwegian cartographers mapped them using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . They named them as Utvikgalten (Norwegian for foreign Bay boar ). The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named them in the course of surveys by scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) after Alan R. Martin, head of the ANARE team on Macquarie Island in 1948.
