Martin Johann Schmid

Martin Johann Schmid (born January 17, 1898 in Vienna ; † February 18, 1980 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian architect .

Life

Schmid attended the graphic training and research institute in Vienna until 1916 , after which he did military service. After the First World War he studied at the Technical University and worked for the Ferenczi architecture office. It was not until 1931 to 1933 that he attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Peter Behrens , but did not graduate there properly. From 1932 to 1938 he worked as a freelance architect in a joint venture with Alfred Adler , which ended when Adler had to emigrate because of his Jewish origins. Schmid had good contacts with artistic circles in the 1930s, so that he was also able to work as a film architect and designer of artist studios. After 1945 he moved to the Wörthersee in Carinthia and continued to work there until the late 1970s.
