Siegfried Martin Langen (born November 10, 1866 in Antwerp , † September 8, 1926 in Grunewald ) was a German poet and playwright .

Live and act

At the end of the 1880s he published collections of poetry, e. B. “My heart in song” and “Man's heart”. His last collection of poems, "Songs of a Twenty Years Old", appeared in 1920. In 1895 he founded the Simplicissimus magazine with his brother Albert Langen . A year later he started the weekly newspaper “Welt am Montag” in Berlin and took over the editing.

His dramas, such as “Don Juan” or “Julius Caesar and His Murderers”, are not influenced by naturalism , but rather traditional, classical tragedies with a historical background. However, the play “give and take” is definitely related to time. His last piece "The Face of the World" was dedicated to the memory of his fallen son. He also wrote the comedies “The Educator, Joseph in a Trap” and “The Kiss”.

He died in his house at Koenigsallee 39 and was buried in the Grunewald cemetery.
