Martin Maria Kruger

Martin Maria Krüger (* 1954 in Solingen ) is a German guitarist , percussionist and drummer and has been President of the German Music Council since 2003 .

Life

Krüger had his first music lessons on various instruments at the age of seven. At the age of 16 he began private guitar studies with Siegfried Behrend . After graduating from high school, he also studied drums with Siegfried Fink and continued his guitar studies at the University of Music in Würzburg with Dieter Kirsch . He completed both courses with an artistic diploma.

He made his international debut in 1973 as a soloist with the Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra during a tour of Scandinavia. He has since traveled to several continents as a soloist and chamber musician and is best known as Siegfried Behrend's duo partner in the German guitar duo. He gave concerts in Tokyo for the imperial family, in the Berlin Philharmonic and in the national operas of Istanbul and Cairo.

In 1982 Martin Maria Krüger became director of the Hermann-Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg (since September 2001 integrated into the University of Music ). From 1987 to July 31, 2008 he was director of the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. In 2003 he was elected President of the German Music Council to succeed Franz Müller-Heuser . In January 2009 he was appointed honorary professor by the Bavarian Minister of Science at the suggestion of the Senate of the Munich University of Music and Theater.

On the Day of German Unity 2013, he received the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from Federal President Joachim Gauck .
