Martin Nordegg , born as Martin Cohn , (* 1868 in Silesia ; † 1948 ) was a German-born Canadian pioneer. The listed city of Nordegg in the southwest of the province of Alberta is named after him.

After discovering a huge coal deposit in the Rocky Mountains , he was able to build a city that would henceforth bear his name. In 1955, coal production was stopped as the Canadian railways increasingly switched to diesel. Nordeggs once had around 3,000 inhabitants and is now around 200. The place has been a National Historic Site of Canada since 2002 .
