Martin Paul Waßmer

Martin Paul Waßmer (born January 28, 1966 in Heidelberg ) is a German lawyer. He is professor for criminal law , criminal procedure law , commercial and tax criminal law at the University of Cologne .

Career

After graduating from high school in 1985 and doing community service at the German Red Cross, he studied law and economics in Heidelberg and Lausanne . In 1996 he did his doctorate with Thomas Hillenkamp on the subject of breach of trust in risky businesses . After the second state examination in 1997, he was admitted to the bar in 1998 . From 1998 to 2002 he was a research assistant to Klaus Tiedemann at the Institute for Criminology and White Collar Criminal Law . In 2006 he completed his habilitation at theUniversity of Freiburg with the text The criminal liability of business owners .

After serving as professorships at the universities in Osnabrück, Bayreuth and Cologne as well as at the Free University of Berlin, he was appointed to the chair for criminal law , criminal procedural law , commercial and tax criminal law at the University of Cologne in summer 2009 .

Waßmer held visiting professorships at Tbilisi State University (Georgia), the Chinese University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, and Hokkaidō University (Japan).

His research areas include commercial and tax criminal law, in particular banking, balance sheet and capital market criminal law, as well as European and international criminal law, administrative offense law , medical criminal law and criminal law against foreigners.

Waßmer was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Georgia (Tbilisi) .
