Martin Schairer (born October 10, 1952 in Stuttgart ) is a German administrative lawyer, mayor and former police chief of Stuttgart.

School and study

Martin Schairer graduated from Dillmann Gymnasium in Stuttgart in 1971 . This was followed by a law degree at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . He has a doctorate in law.

Career

Martin Schairer was an assistant at the chairs of Lenckner and Dürig (criminal law, criminal procedural law and public law). From 1982 he was a judge at the district court and public prosecutor at the Stuttgart public prosecutor's office. From 1985 to 1987 he was an observer for the Ministry of Justice in the state representation of Baden-Württemberg in the federal capital Bonn. From 1988 he acted as press spokesman and deputy head of the central office under the Baden-Württemberg ministers of justice, Helmut Ohnewald and Thomas Schäuble . From 1993 he was head of the criminal procedure law department in the Ministry of Justice of Baden-Württemberg and deputy head of the criminal law department.

On March 1, 1999, Martin Schairer became police chief of Stuttgart and remained in office until April 30, 2006.

From May 1, 2006 to July 31, 2016 he was mayor for law, security and order in the Baden-Württemberg state capital Stuttgart. Since August 1, 2016, he has been Mayor for Security, Order and Sport and Chairman of the Sports Committee. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Environment and Technology Committee of the Stuttgart City Council.

Memberships and functions

Martin Schairer is a member of the CDU . He is also a member of the Police Working Group of the CDU Stuttgart and of the Federal Working Group of Christian Democratic Jurists. He is a member of the German-European Forum for Urban Safety (DEFUS), a member of the Executive Committee of the European Forum for Urban Safety (EFUS) and chairman of the Legal and Constitutional Committee of the State of Baden-Württemberg. Martin Schairer is a member of MTV Stuttgart .
