from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Scheringer (born June 18, 1965 in Aachen ) is a Swiss-German chemist and specialist book author. Since 2015 he has been professor of environmental chemistry at Masaryk University .

Scheringer studied at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . For the dissertation he moved to the ETH Zurich , where he 1996 Persistence and Spatial Range as Indicators for the Assessment of Environmental Chemicals doctorate was. In 2004 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on Evaluating Environmental and Human Exposure to Organic Chemicals: Persistence, Spatial Range, and Scenario-Based Risk Assessment . Since 2005 he has worked as a private lecturer at the ETH Zurich. From November 2014 to 2015 he was a professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Scheringer's research focuses on the exposure modeling of chemicals, in particular the global distribution dynamics of long-lived organic pollutants , the chemical assessment ( persistence , long-distance atmospheric transport ) and the implementation of the precautionary principle in this.

Memberships

Scheringer is a board member of the Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology Section in the Society of German Chemists , in the directory of experts of the POP Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention and the International Panel on Chemical Pollution , which he chairs. He is co-editor of Environmental Science & Technology .
