The Martin Schmitz publishing house was founded in 1989 by gallery owners and architects Martin Schmitz in Kassel founded and moved a few years later to Berlin . He mainly publishes works that lie between the individual categories or elude these definitions in different ways and therefore cannot be easily sorted.

Examples of this are the books “Autobigophonie” by Françoise Cactus , “Blue” by Derek Jarman or “ Blue Tit ” by Wolfgang Müller . Further authors of the publishing house are the filmmakers Elfi Mikesch , Heinz Emigholz and Rosa von Praunheim .

Since 1991 Martin Schmitz and Wolfgang Müller , the head of the group Die Tödliche Doris , have regularly published volumes on the work of this volume. In 2004 the first volume from the estate of the Swiss landscape designer and architectural historian Lucius Burckhardt , founder of the science of walking and 1982 director of the “documenta urbana”, was published. A second volume followed in 2006.
