Martin Treu (historian)

Martin Treu (* 1953 in Berlin ) is a German historian and theologian . From 1991 to 1997 he was the director of the Lutherhalle, today Augusteum and Lutherhaus , in Wittenberg .

Life

From 1974 Treu studied Protestant theology at the Martin Luther University in Halle an der Saale . He received his doctorate in 1982 at the University of Halle with a dissertation on the subject of the current meaning of Luther's concept of comfort. At the same time he became vicar at the Petrus Congregation in Halle. In 1983 his ordination to the pastor of the Evangelical Church of the Church Province of Saxony .

Treu became a research assistant at the Lutherhalle in Wittenberg in 1984 and was its director from 1991 to 1997. From 1998 to 2012 he was division manager for exhibitions and mediation at the Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt . Martin Treu has been honorary managing director of the Luther Society since October 1, 2013 . He is the author and editor of numerous specialist publications. The third edition of his biography about Katharina von Bora was published in 1999 and has been translated into English, among other things. In 2017 he appeared in the television documentary Luther and the Women by Gabriele Rose.
