Martin de Saint-Germain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin de Saint-Germain († December 1, 1303 ) was bishop of Geneva from 1295 to 1303 .

Life

Martin comes from a distinguished family, presumably from the Bugey family. Members of the family have been recorded as citizens of Geneva (cives Gebennenses) since the second half of the 13th century .

Martin had been a canon in Geneva since July 16, 1273 . There is no evidence of the election of a bishop; he is first mentioned as a bishop on July 10, 1295. In contrast to the bishops before and after him, there were few political conflicts during his term of office, he had to defend the coin rack against the lords of Vaud and reorganized episcopal coinage. Martin died on December 1, 1303.
