Martin of Meissen
Martin (* in the 12th century ; † July 15, 1190 near Tire ) was Bishop of Meissen from 1170 to 1190 .
Martin is said to come from the area around the Petersberg Monastery . He was first a canon in Meissen. He was one of the participants in the Third Lateran Council . The establishment of the Altzella monastery falls during his time as bishop and he expressly assigned him initially disputed areas in a document. Other monasteries were also founded during this time. He maintained peaceful relations with the Margrave Otto . He died on the Third Crusade near the city of Tire .
