The so-called Testament of Ba ( Tib. Dba 'bzhed or SBA bzhed ) is Ba Salnang (SBA' gSal snang / dba 'gSal snang ), a Buddhist monk from the middle and late 8th century attributed.

It is one of the oldest chronicles of Tibet from the time of the Tibetan kings , which tells about events in Tibet in the 8th century in the time of King Thrisong Detsen , the founder of the Samye (bSam yas) monastery consecrated in 779 - the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet - and reported the famous Samye debate . It reports on the relationship between Tubo and the Tang Dynasty and the relationship between Tibetan and Indian Buddhism .

According to Pasang Wangdu and Hildegard Diemberger, an original version is believed to have been written in the 9th century; the frequently revised versions that exist today date back to the 12th to 14th centuries. The style of the text suggests that it belongs to a transitional phase between archaic dynastic Tibetan , as encountered in the Dunhuang materials, and early classical / canonical Tibetan .
