Martina Bethke

Martina Bethke (born in the 20th century) is a German disabled athlete and goalball player .

Life

Martina Bethke is severely visually impaired . Since she still did not want to forego competitive sport and to do sport with women with equal disabilities, she chose goalball as her sport. Since her achievements justified it, she was appointed to the German national women's goalball team, with which she took part in the 1996 Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta . At these games she reached the final with the German team consisting of Christel Bettinger , Gudula Demmelhuber , Cornelia Dietz , Edda Ewert , Christina Krause and Martina Bethke. In this final, the German team defeated their opponents from Finland and won the gold medal in the goalball game.

For this success, Bethke and her teammates were honored with the award of the Silver Laurel Leaf .
