Edda Ewert

Edda Ewert (* in the 20th century) is a German goalball player .

Career

Edda Ewert is severely visually impaired . In spite of this handicap , she did not want to forego sporting activity and exercising this activity in the context of competitive sport . Since she preferred to play sports in community with other disabled people, she chose goalball as a sport . Her sporting achievements justified her inclusion in the German national goalball team. With this team she took part in the 1996 Paralympic Summer Games in Atlanta , where the German team finally reached the final. In this final she defeated the Finnish team with the cast Martina Bethke , Christel Bettinger , Gudula Demmelhuber , Cornelia Dietz , Christine Krause and Edda Ewert and thus became Olympic champion and winner of a gold medal .

For this success, she and the German national goalball team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by the Federal President .
