Christel Bettinger

Christel Bettinger , born in the 20th century, is a German disabled athlete.

Career

Christel Bettinger is severely disabled. Due to her severely limited eyesight, she can only participate in sporting activities to a limited extent. But because she really wanted to do sport and strived to do so in community with other disabled women, she chose goalball as a sport. Her achievements in this sport were soon so good that she was appointed to the German national women's goalball team. With this team she took part in the 1996 Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta . The German team made up of Christel Bettinger, Edda Ewert , Christine Krause , Gudula Demmelhuber , Cornelia Dietz and Martina Bethke came with her into the final, in which they defeated the Finnish team and thus became Olympic and gold medalists.

For this success, she and the team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by the Federal President.
