Kids in America is a song and Kim Wilde's debut single . It was decoupled from their self-titled album on January 26, 1981 .

Emergence

The song was written by Marty Wilde and produced by Ricky Wilde . Shortly before, Kim Wilde had been discovered by producer Mickie Most, she had sung the background vocals to a song by her brother Ricky.

Publication and reception

On January 26, 1981, the single was released on RAK Records . The B-side contains the song Tuning in Tuning On , in contrast to the single , which was released by EMI America , contains the title You'll Never Be So Wrong . Wilde sang the song in the program Gottschalk's big 80s show , which was broadcast on October 26, 2019 , as before in many television programs and at live concerts.

The song reached high chart positions worldwide: number five in Germany and Switzerland and number twelve in Austria , in the United Kingdom it was number two and in the USA it was number 25. At the end of the year, the single occupied position three in the German single annual charts .
