Martina Wulf

Martina Wulf (born April 30, 1907 as Martha Maria Wulf in Hamburg , † November 28, 1982 ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ). The opera singer , who was honored as a Hamburg Chamber Singer , belonged to the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera from 1929 to 1953 .

Life

Martina Wulf grew up in Hamburg. Her music-loving mother nurtured her daughter's talent with singing lessons. At the age of 20, Wulf made his debut at the Volksoper Hamburg on Millerntorplatz . From 1929 to 1953 she was part of the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera , where she gave more than 2,000 performances. Among other things, she took part in the premiere of La cena delle beffe in the 1920s, which took place in the presence of the composer Umberto Giordano . Allegedly Giordano wanted to take her to Italy with him, but Wulf stayed in Hamburg. In a newspaper poll in 1951, she was voted the most popular woman in Hamburg by readers. Her voice can be heard on a number of recordings from the time.
