Hamburger Kammersänger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg awards singers the honorary title of Hamburger Kammersänger for their artistic work. The chamber singers do not have to be permanently engaged in Hamburg; however, a close connection to the city's musical life is usually recognizable. Most of the Hamburg Chamber Singers are opera singers who were engaged at the Hamburg State Opera .

history

After the Second World War, the first appointment did not take place until 1961, when the Senator for Culture Biermann-Ratjen awarded the title to four singers on behalf of the Senate. One of the most famous Hamburg chamber singers was Luciano Pavarotti , who received the honorary title in 1989 after a gala performance as Rodolfo in La Bohème by Ingo von Münch , Senator for Culture . The applause lasted 45 minutes. Pavarotti's tenor colleague Plácido Domingo had already received the title in 1975 at the suggestion of opera director August Everding from the hand of Senator for Culture Dieter Biallas , and as a 34-year-old title holder, Domingo was one of the youngest to date.

The title is awarded by the Hamburg Senate, the right of proposal is practically exercised by the artistic directors of the Hamburg State Opera. The Kammersänger certificate is usually presented by the Senator for Culture , often after a gala performance.
