Gabriele Rossmanith

Gabriele Rossmanith (* 1956 in Stuttgart ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ). She has been singing at the Hamburg State Opera since 1988 .

Life

Gabriele Rossmanith came to music through playing instruments : As a child, she first learned the flute, piano and violin and only took singing lessons to improve her vocal technique while practicing songs. She first studied violin with Roman Schimmer at the Musikhochschule Trossingen , before moving to the Musikhochschule Stuttgart , where she studied singing with Sylvia Geszty . She completed her vocal studies in 1984. In the following year she was awarded first prize at the Mozart Festival competition in Würzburg.

Her first permanent engagement took Gabriele Rossmanith from 1985 to the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe for three years . She then went to the Hamburg State Opera, to whose permanent ensemble she has been a member since 1988. She also had guest engagements in Munich , Brussels , Berlin , Barcelona (2002) and Toulouse (2003). In addition to her work in the opera, she gives concerts and recitals and can be heard on a number of recordings. In 2011, at the suggestion of opera director Simone Young, the Hamburg Senate awarded her the honorary title of Hamburger Kammersängerin .

Her repertoire includes the Morgana in Alcina , Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro , Despina in Così fan tutte , Pamina in the Magic Flute , Wellgunde / Ortlinde in the Ring , Nedda in Pagliacci , Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and Anne Truelove in The Rake's Progress . She was particularly successful in Hamburg as Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande ( Decker / Metzmacher , 1999) and as Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites ( Lehnhoff / Metzmacher, 2003). In the meantime, their musical activities are supplemented by chanson evenings and chamber music programs.
