Life

Martine Billard has been involved in the Comité d'action lycéen movement since May 1968 and fought against right-wing extremism . In the 1970s she took part in the fight for abortion and against the Latin American dictatorships , but without ever taking a stand for Cuba .

As a supporter of the radical left, she became a member of two radical left organizations, the Révolution! and the organization Communiste des Travailleurs , the communist labor movement.

After studying economics in Paris, she worked for a while in various professions (ticket validator at the metro, cashier, worker, accounting assistant, etc.). She then worked for five years as a librarian and for ten years in a medium-sized company that specialized in computer cataloging of libraries.

In the 1980s she took part in the struggle against nuclear power and for the Palestinians. She disapproved of Zionism .

Politician with the Greens

In 1993 she joined the French Greens . From 1995 to 2001 she was city councilor of Paris, 1996/1997 spokeswoman for the Paris Greens and 1999 to 2000 spokeswoman for the French Greens. From 2000 to 2002 she was a member of the collège exécutif of the Greens, responsible for economic and social issues.

In 2002, supported by the left, she prevailed in the elections to the French National Assembly against the mayor of the 1st arrondissement of Paris, Jean-François Legaret ( UMP ), and won the mandate for the constituency of Paris 1. This election was considered a surprise, as this constituency is very bourgeois and wealthy and has so far been firmly in the hands of conservative candidates. It was clearly beaten in the 1st and 4th arrondissement, but got a lot of votes from the voters of the 2nd and 3rd arrondissement, which are considered the bobo stronghold .

Political mandates
