Mary & Gordy

Mary and Gordy (full names: Mary Morgan and Gordy Blanche ), portrayed by Georg Preuße (Mary) and Reiner Kohler (Gordy), were a well-known German travesty duo in the 1980s, performing on well-known stages as well as in many entertainment shows on television occurred.

Career

Preuße and Kohler were already active in the field and merged. They created their own characters, but also parodied famous artists such as Heino or Nana Mouskouri . Preparations for appearances in Las Vegas were already under way when Kohler was afraid of "getting stuck" there like Siegfried and Roy, for example . So they dropped this offer again.

The duo's manager was Prussia's partner and later husband Jack Amsler, costume designer Maria Lucas and author Charles Lewinsky.

One show was ARD's contribution to a Rose of Montreux . In 1987 the duo was awarded the Golden Europe and the Golden Camera . In the same year it had to be resolved due to a back pain from Kohler, which made further stage appearances impossible.

A highlight of every show was the last song So live your life , an interpretation of the Frank Sinatra classic My Way in the version of Mary Roos . Gordy or Kohler sings, already made up and only wearing pants, while Mary takes off his make-up, clothes and wig while Mary is singing and becomes Georg Preuße. After Preuße only appeared alone as Mary after Kohler's withdrawal from the stage, he also took over the entire vocal part and ended each of his appearances with this song and the transformation from Mary to Prussia.

Georg Preuße began a solo career. Reiner Kohler worked in the background in the show industry and died on January 18, 1995.
